The topics of this book include low blood pressure (PoTS), fatigue, gut problems, migraines, allergies, sleep disorder, menstrual issues and other issues.

The big news in this area is that joint hypermobility – a.k.a. double-jointedness, is associated with all the conditions listed above. Not only is this quirky, but it also provides a mechanism to understand how and why PoTS occurs.

This book explains the mechanisms that link joint hypermobility to other conditions – especially to PoTS. It also explains why these disorders are seen in families and why having joint hypermobility can be a good thing – it can help you draw, dance, sing, run and make music. Perhaps most importantly, the book explains how these conditions can be treated (by your doctor!).

    Postural Hypertension

When blood pressure falls, so do you!

Everybody knows about high blood pressure – it’s the silent killer. At the other end of the spectrum is postural hypotension – blood pressure that falls when you are upright.

Postural hypotension causes fatigue, faintness and falls. That means it can be deadly, or even worse, send you into a nursing home. Unlike high blood pressure, postural hypotension produces a mass of symptoms. Even so, it is often a diagnosis that is easily missed.

    Long Covid, PoTS and ME/CFS

    Historical. Understandable. Predictable. Treatable.

Long term illness following infection is an age-old phenomenon. It occurs after endemic infections such as glandular fever. It occurs after pandemics – influenza, COVID-19 or otherwise. It even occurs after standard bacterial infections. These long term illnesses are often called post-viral syndrome. Long covid is the newest member of this condition.

Long covid’s most common symptoms include faintness, fatigue and massive elevation of adrenaline (which make you feel breathless, tremulous and anxious). In other circumstances, these symptoms might be labelled as PoTS (postural tachycardia syndrome) and ME/CFS (myalgic encepahalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome). Understanding PoTS and ME/CFS allows a better understanding of long covid. Whether joint hypermobility is the link that connects these conditions to post-viral syndrome is yet to be determined – but it sure makes a nice hypothesis.

Our Reviews

Foggy, Faint, Fatigued & Adrenaline

– A Book Review

A concise light summary of POTS/OI.
I would recommend this book mainly for the newly diagnosed or struggling with POTS/Dysautonomia or patients who are suffering from the symptoms listed in the title who have got no where finding the cause.
I think those who are well into treatment and stable or looking for something more clinical will still like it but might find this is a concise summary of what they have spent years researching.
